Once again Glasgow Green will host the World Pipe Band Championships, brought to you by Culture & Sport Glasgow and The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association.

The Worlds has been associated with Glasgow since 1948 and is a celebration of the very best of Scottish music, culture and dance. Only the Worlds bings together pipers and drummers from around the globe. Bands from 16 different countries including Canada, the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan will travel to Scotand this year with only victory on their minds. The event culminates in a cacophony of sound and colour as thousands of pipers and drummers participate in a mass march past.

Following a second successive triumph in Grade 1 for Northern Ireland's Field Marshall Montgomery Pipe Band, it will require a stellar performance from the rest to overcome the challenge of the world's best!

General Tickets go on sale 17th March 2008 and Grade 1 Seating tickets will be available from early May.

The National Piping Centre will once again be hosting the daily Street Cafe outside the building. This will give weary festival goers the chance to sit and relax with drink and some fine fayre from the Pipers' Tryst as well as listening to an array of different pipers and piping styles from all around the world. It will also be hosting the Pipe Idol competition every day at 3 pm.

So this is it... the moment we have all been waiting for - the new Pipe Idol 2008 is..... (DRUM ROLL....)

 All will be unveiled at the Grand Final which takes place at 3 pm on Friday 15th August when the finalist have their last chance to impress the judges and be crowned Pipe Idol 2008!

This will feature performances by the best solo performers of 2008 - a great day of solo piping. Murray Henderson (pictured) was the 2007 Masters Solo Champion.

This event is fun for all the family with events running throughout the day to keep everyone entertained!
